When we released the Chipperfields set of vehicles there was a small article on the generator truck, in one of the collector magazines, with a comment on the side skirts - the inference was that it didn’t look right. Well our model was based on a real army truck that was specially produced by Bedford, which carried a Rolls Royce generator - the message being that a vehicle doesn’t have to look right to be right. The side skirts were particularly bulky, in order to store the extensive amount of cabling that was required. Interestingly I spoke to a collector who had worked at the Circus who confirmed that the origin of the truck was indeed the army. The specifications for such trucks were always a lot higher in order to survive the more rugged conditions experienced during operations. They made an ideal choice for life in circus and of course the reliability of the Rolls Royce engine made it a very desirable piece of equipment. We have reproduced the Army generator truck in this older livery as part of the TK range of non circus vehicles which will include British Rail personnel carriers along with other interesting designs.
