This brand
new classic saloon car represents the vehicle introduced by Vauxhall in
1961 and produced up to 1964. It featured a standard three-gear column
change with the option to upgrade to a floor mounted 4 speed synchromesh
gearbox. Initially, an increased engine capacity of 1508 cc gave it a
power output of 49.5 bhp and in 1963, the engine was enlarged to 1594
cc. The FB saloon was available with four doors or as a five-door Estate
version. The interior had a standard bench front seat, although if you
bought the Super Victor, you had the option of individual seats. Other
options - believe it or not - included a heater, fog lamps, a radio,
screen washers, reversing lights and seat belts - all things we take for
granted in today's motoring world. 328,640 FBs were built.
A letter received from Mr Alan Ashby VAUXHALL VICTOR FB First registered March 12th 1962 Chassis No FBE 48445 Engine No F47013 Engine Capacity 1508 c.c.
The car was purchased on August 7th 2002 from Brixham having been hand painted by it's previous owner, but it was also painted under the bonnet and even in the boot, we decided to remove all the paint and go back to bare metal and have it re-painted to it's original colours, the roof being glade green and the lower part alpine green, we have replaced the rear springs and shock absorbers and brake shoes, the roof lining has also been replaced and the seats have been recovered in leather to match the paintwork and during 2008 the front brake shoes were replaced and also the shock absorbers, with the age of the car the restoration is on going and in 2009 we had the front wings replaced with steel ones and had the bottom half re-sprayed. The car can be seen at various rallies around South Devon throughout the summer and some of the events visited in the past, Powderham Castle, Torbay Steam Gala, Paignton Green, Castle Drago and a number of National Trust Properties.
The car is owned by Alan & Ian Ashby (Father & Son) |
