Daily Sketch

This model carries headlines of both Amy Johnson and the fateful R101 flight in 1930.

Amy Johnson flew from London to Darwin in her second hand 'Tiger Moth' bi-plane which she purchased for £600 (US$1000). She left virtually unnoticed, but soon as her exploits and adventurous journey became publicised her solo journey hit the worldwide headlines.

In the same year the R101 airship crashed. It was a huge structure measuring 735ft in length and could travel at 60mph - at the time the largest object ever to fly. It crashed on the fateful morning of October 5th killing all 44 of its passengers.
