KLM was founded in 1919 and its first scheduled flight took place one
year later from Amsterdam to London. During the war all KLM aircraft
still operating had “Holland” painted in large letters on their fuselage
to identify them as neutral. KLM is the abbreviation for, KONINKLIJKE
LUCHTVAART MAATSCHAPPIJ which literally means Royal Aviation Company and
in 2004 it merged with Air France.
