	World Blood Donor Day takes place each year on June 14 which was chosen because it's also the birthday of Karl Landsteiner, who discovered the ABO blood group system. The day is supported by three major organisations - the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the International Federation of Blood Donor Organisations and the International Society of Blood Transfusion.
