The story of the brand goes back to 1865 to Fleetwood Lancashire which had become the centre of the UK's fishing industry. A young pharmacist named James Lofthouse created an extremely strong lozenge which was used by the local fishermen who referred to them as their 'Friends' , as they relieved them from problems encountered on their sometimes difficult voyages. it was this that gave them the early name of Fisherman's Friend and as holidaymakers began to use them their fame spread and today they are available throughout the world.
