C055 British Legion

British Legion

For the third year Oxford Diecast  joined forces with The Royal British Legion to support their Poppy Appeal in 2001. A set of four vehicles will be featured in some of the leading Daily newspapers including the Daily Express, Weekly News, Diecast Collector and dozens of regional papers throughout the UK.  One vehicle was offered for a nominal postage amount. When the Bullnose and Model T are purchased for £15, which includes a £3.00 donation to the British Legion then a bus is thrown in free of charge.

Poppy Day is a day to remind us of all those who gave their lives in the cause of freedom in World War II and other conflicts.

The Royal British Legion is the UK's leading charity safeguarding the welfare, interests and memory of those who have served in the Armed Forces and their dependants. It provides financial, social and emotional support to millions and its benevolence spans all age groups from the oldest to the very young.

A poem by John McCrae. Thanks also to Gerry Savage.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow

Between the crosses , row on row,

That mark our place; and in the sky

The larks, still bravely singing, fly

Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago

We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,

Loved and were loved, and now we lie

In Flanders Fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:

To you from failing hands we throw

The torch; be yours to hold it high.

If ye break faith with us who die

We shall not sleep, though poppies grow

In Flanders Field
