White Swans
This vehicle carrying the livery of Three Swans depicts
the cigarette manufacturers particular fondness for animals in all
shapes and sizes on their packaging. The basic theme is that of the open
air unpolluted by the city, where animals can be seen in their native
habitat. Visually there was no danger of creating damaging references to
class, creed or colour. The image of the animal was there not only as a
play on the makers name, but also as a visual delight for the children
in the community, a concept that would not be at all possible today.
White Swans cigarette packs produced by United Tobacco Co. in the UK
fell into the category of the simple image for instant product
identification. The Swans are depicted at rest serenely oblivious of our
presence.
