ZAL

The lovely pine tree on the side of the bottle base gave an immediate ‘impression’ of cleanness. ‘Zal’ disinfectant in a bottle.

Popular in the 50’s and 60’s ‘Zal’ was an early household disinfectant for domestic use and only 1/- per bottle - can you imagine! Today’s price for a bottled disinfectant - at least 20 times more! Isn’t that amazing? In fact, you could have an extra large bottle for just 1/6d.

Did you know also that the wonderful Matt Monroe sang:-

‘Zal is freshness with a zing, Everyday yes, Zal’s the thing, The dreamy, steamy smell of pine, Zal disinfects every time!’

‘Zal hates germs just kicks them out leaves the smell of pine about, You’ll notice the difference with everything, Zal is freshness with a zing’.

A treasure of economy at only 1/- a bottle.

That advertisement jingle has been stuck in my head since 1965, but I thought it went

'For the springy, zingy smell of pine, Zal disinfectant every time.'
