Unigate was formed in 1959 by the merger of United Dairies with Cow and Gate Ltd. This makes an ideal companion for our milk float shown on the front cover. As we all know the fierce competition from the supermarkets led to a decline in doorstep deliveries and mounting losses led to the milk division of Unigate being sold to Dairy Crest in 2000.
