Many of our liveries
have little songs attached to them.
Martini being no exception ‘Anytime, any place any where - it’s
Martini’ rings a bell. Isn’t this also the
drink Leonard Rossitter and Joan Collins enjoyed?
Martini is vermouth and referred to internationally as such -
except for the UK! Vermouth dates back to
the turn of the 18th century and the main supplier was Martini and
Rossi who started in 1847. The business continued until 1860 when
both founders died within a short while of each other, thus in 1863,
after being run very successfully by 3 talented individuals, the
company became known as ‘Martini Sola & Cla’.
In 1867 one hundred cases were shipped to New York
from Genoa. You can guess who for! The rest as they say is history. You’ve
all heard of Whisky Manhatten and Brandy Manhatten. Well if you want
one simply give yourself a shot of either whisky (Bourbon
preferably) and a shot of Martini. You’ll soon be in cuckoo land.
The second is our new drinks series.
