Glenmorangie |
| The History of the GLENMORANGIE distillery stretches back into
the mists of the Celtic dawn. The earliest documented reference to distillation
on this site is to be found in 1703. Many of the buildings at the Glen of Tranquillity date back to the time when the distillery was licensed in 1843. If you could travel back for a moment to that year, you'd discover that the distillery was in urgent need of new stills. But at the time money was tight. So, rather than buy brand new stills, the distillery manager had no alternative but to trawl the market for something second hand. What he discovered were swan necked stills that had been used in a gin distillery. Those, he decided, would do just fine. Which is why the stills are made of 99.9% pure copper - with each narrow, arching swan neck individually hand beaten into shape by skilled coppersmiths - and why they have always been, and always will be, precisely sixteen foot ten and a quarter inches tall. In more than 150 years since, the distillery has had only six managers and successive generations of local families - the workforce of only sixteen have passed on their skills and secrets: a continuous tradition of commitment to the distillers art, and to the integrity of tried and trusted methods. In all that time, despite the occasional temptation to shed age-old customs in favour of fashionable or more cost-effective practices, the processes used to create GLENMORANGIE have altered hardly at all. This is the second vehicle bearing this name, the first being produced back in 2000 and coded 190G. This vehicle comes in a special Glenmorangie box, Could this be another Teachers!! |
