Boston United |
| The name first appeared in 1933 although the town was always
playing football at the York Street Stadium. They even entered the FA cup back
in 1887 drawn against Gainsborough Trinity, but lost 7-0. By the start of the
First World War there were two clubs in the town - Boston Town whose
headquarters were “The Coach and Horses” and “Boston Swifts” who used “The
Indian Queen”. As there were no facilities both teams changed behind the
appropriate pub. After war only one team emerged which called itself Boston, but
this ran into difficulties in the 1930’s and a new club was formed called Boston
United. A local entrepreneur Ernest Malkinson then joined the board and his
family retained control for nearly seventy years.
