Oldham |
| Formed in 1895, their first match was against Berry
Reserves, the second team of Berry’s Blacking Works, Blackley,
Manchester - the “Latics” as they are nicknamed won their first match.
The formation had come after an article in a local newspaper. “It is
really surprising that a first rate - Association Football Club cannot
be run in Oldham for there is plenty of room for one without crippling
the leading rugby club and, in addition, there is demand for good
soccer” (see also NEW001 Oldham Chronicle). They play at Boundary Park
and today the attendance capacity is 13,559, a long way from their
attendance record of over 47,000 in the 1930’s. Their best league win was in 1962 against Stockport County when they knocked in 11 goals. |
