 Bedford HA Royal Mail
  Both the Bedford CA and HA vans have been well received, and we have plenty of variants scheduled over the coming months. The most difficult is proving to be the HA camper variant which will come with an opening top - see back page for first shots. The design for the CA was carried out quite some time ago, but in the interests of improving the accuracy of the liveries the HA had input from the Post Office Club and our thanks go to them.
The Royal Mail fleet is still one of the largest fleets of vehicles in the UK. The use of mailvans expanded during the 1920’s and 1930’s, initially Fords, then Morris before a whole variety of other vehicles were used. Some of these were for test purposes only, whilst other were needed to fulfil specialist needs - Land Rovers for hostile weather and and rough terrain, large saloons for senior managers and Mobile Post Office Units for outlying areas. There are many good books on the subject and my favourite is the Royal Mail book issued by the Post Office Vehicle Club which has plenty of pictures covering the history of the Royal Mail fleet.
