MM007 Post Office Telephones - Swansea Edition 3,000

The origins of the General Post Office (GPO) can be traced back to at least the 17th century when in 1661, under the Postmaster General, Henry Bishop, the first British postmark was introduced. From 1st January 1912 the General Post Office became the monopoly supplier of telephone services with the exception of the remaining municipal services in Hull, Portsmouth and Guernsey. Throughout the 1960s, the Post Office was still a government department, part of the Civil Service. The name, GPO/Post Office Telephones was used until October 1969 when the Post Office ceased to be a government department. This new division in the 'Post Office Corporation' became Post Office Telecommunications and vehicles changed colour from mid-bronze green vans to yellow. The change was mainly for safety (visibility) reasons, but the new image branding helped to reflect the changed identity and to show that the telephone business was now a separate part of the Post Office.
This is a further release in the Morris Minor range and is particularly nice with the ladder shown on the roof. There will be quite a few variants over the coming months and this range has proved to be a very popular release.

Dear Taff, i started work at the POST OFFICE ENGINEERING WORKS, BIRMINGHAM, in 1943 age 14yrs as a junior fitter, and if my memory serves me well the P/O VANS where fitted with rubber front wings then or later, we used the drained off engine oil when we where oil blacking components that we had made, perhaps you will be able to check, regards from, LEN COPSEY, B26 2RR.
