  Dan Air

Dan Air Services Ltd was founded in 1953 as a subsidiary of Davies ans Newman, the shipping brokers from whom the name is derived. On 23rd of November 1992, the company was sold to British Airways for £1 who immediately sacked 1,600 staff, including 340 pilots at airports at Gatwick, Manchester and Newcastle.
Dan-Air Services began a Blackbushe (west of London) to Jersey route in 1955. It was soon renamed Dan-Air London and moved to Gatwick to become a major holiday charter airline. Dan-Air used Avro York’s, Ambassadors and then a huge fleet of used Comet 4 and 4B jets in the 1960s, it bought up every second hand Comet it could find. Laker Airways was formed by ex-Dan-Air London operator Sir Freddie Laker. We show the Morris Minor which is based on the vehicles it used to run in its own fleet.
