  Ever Ready

An advert from Ever Ready proudly announces:
“Women find Ever Ready Alldry Radio a blessing because it can be taken from room to room, indoors and outdoors, and be ready to entertain wherever it is carried. As it needs no aerial, earth or mains wires and uses dry batteries only, Ever Ready Alldry Radio is completely mobile and very much the “housewives choice”.

Lesley Milne of Camberley 13/4/2008

Hi there

My family has a wonderful historical link with the famous Ever Ready logo as on your Model MV004 minivan, I bought today from the model shop at Cheddar. (£5)

My uncle, Stuart Leslie Milne (1902-1991) designed the logo for Ever Ready in 1929; he wasn't paid a fee (sadly!) but offered an extra week's work! Stuart was known in our family as 'Chib' and was very proud of his most famous logo which appeared worldwide. Only recently did I discover it had been in lights in Piccadilly Circus (c.1960), but he didn't tell us, so we didn't see it at the time.

After Stuart Milne's death in 1991, I collected a wide range of Ever Ready logo products, i.e. radios, toys, torches, adverts, batteries, and in an eyecatching display, mounted an exhibition of these items at the Gunnersbury Park Museum, London. Many thousands of people visited during the 15month display.

Ever Ready sponsored a band up at a colliery in the North East and his logo was used on the banners.

Probably my proudest moment on the project was looking though very old Ever Ready catalogues, bound with his logo blocked in gold on the covers, in the boardroom of Ever Ready Ltd. London.

It has been great sharing this.

Best wishes
Lesley Milne
