NEW001 Oldham Chronicle - CLICK FOR HI-RES

Oldham Chronicle

Back in 1854 Oldham a thriving cotton town had no newspaper of its own. Instead they had to rely on Manchester papers for news about the surrounding town and local districts. A local bookseller and printer Daniel Evans launched the Oldham Chronicle, but within a few years it was sold a couple of times. The editor Jonathan Hirst took up the reins with a £800 investment which formed the foundation of the present company. It’s circulation increased and soon it was published twice a week, being increased to six times a week over the years. It moved to its present home in Union Street in 1923 where it remains today.
We’ve coded this NEW as we intend in future to categorise all newspaper liveries in this way. As the newspaper is taking 600 we only have 400 for the club.
