Coronation 50 Years |
| After the death of her father George VI, Elizabeth took the
throne in 1952. It wasn't until a year later that she was crowned the Queen on
June 2 1953 . It was one of the biggest parties of them all as the country moved
forward after the austerity and memories of the war. It was a time when the
community spirit was strong. The TV had arrived, but they were limited to
one/two per street. Everybody crammed into these houses to get a glimpse of the
procession. For many this was not enough and the long trip to London was made
where cardboard periscopes helped the crowd to gain a better view. The country
then partied and many children received gifts to remember the event - a mug
being the favourite, but also spoons and small shields. Our Model A commemorates the event and is coded ROY001. |
