The Samaritans

The primary aim of The Samaritans is to be available 24 hours a day to provide confidential and emotional support for people who are experiencing feelings of distress or despair.
There are 203 Samaritan branches in the UK, Republic of Ireland and the Channel Islands whose volunteers are available 24hrs per day on the Samaritan national local rate number 08457 90 90 90, as displayed on the model.
Many of the branches are also open to personal callers every day and several provide, an increasingly popular e-mail service, with e-mail contacts coming from all over the world.
November 2nd 2003 saw the 50th Anniversary of its founding by the Rev. Chad Varah, and branches will be celebrating throughout the coming year with many fundraising events.
The Oxford Diecast Commemorative RT Bus was developed from an idea of a volunteer in the Kingston upon Thames Branch.
