London Transport Red Rover |
This RT is on Route 230 on the way
to Northwick Park Station and would have been
running during the 1960’s . The advertising on the side is for the Red
Rover which enabled the holder to travel anywhere on Central Area buses,
trolleybuses and the Underground (Twin Rover) for a fixed fee on one day only.
We show some tickets here from the late 1960’s/early 70’s, one is dual pricing
so was evidently just prior to decimalisation. We presume the name came from the
route of the "Red Rover" London to Liverpool night coach service from the late
1700’s although this service only lasted until the coming of the railways in the
1840’s. During a recent trip to London I saw their new Oyster card which has
recently been introduced - it just doesn’t have the same ring to it - I would
have much preferred the name Red Rover. Anyway a nice addition to the range
RT015.
