Born in 1917, Richard Gilbert "Dick" Emerys popularity began on radio during the 1950's. After his transition to television his career developed throughout the 1960's and 1970's. His passions included aviation, motorcycling and model making - he wrote a review in Meccano Magazine. He appeared on TV with comedians like Tony Hancock, but is most famous for his sketch show which from 1963 - 1979. As well as the vicar with large toth shown in the VW other favourites were Spinster Hettie, James Maynard Kitchener Lampwick and Mandy.
