| As you'd expect some of earliest vehicles are now difficult to obtain and some our members are thankful that they recognized the potential value and exclusivity of our models in our early years. You may wonder why on some of our early editions that we ended up with several sub-coded models i.e.Trex is covered by the numbers 008 008G 008X 008Y four variants with slightly different colours. This wasn't originally planned, but came about due to the success of our early promotions - we had planned for lower redemptions and were caught out by the consumer demand. As all of our Oxford Diecast models are strictly limited editions we had no other option, but to add the variants in order to meet our supply requirements | |
| It is an interesting fact that two of our early promotions Trex(008) and Princes Spreadables (002) were firstly featured on two Corgi Cameo Model T's. These were later replaced by the Oxford variants as they were felt to be of better quality and appearance. Some members will know that our background is entwined with that of Corgi and it was Taff who ran the Corgi Manufacturing operation in Swansea and eventually closed it in 1992. It was the sadness at seeing this once great British factory closed that provided the motivation for him to become involved with Oxford Diecast along with several other members of the team. It is an interesting, but little known fact that at the same time as Taff's toolmakers were crafting the moulds for our first Bullnose Morris that his toolmakers were finishing the tooling for the last Corgi to be built in the UK at its Swansea plant - the Toyota Celica. Whilst others plotted their move to China, Taff & Dusty plotted the continuing manufacture of Diecast products at a new plant in the Swansea area - the brand would no longer be Corgi, but instead Oxford. As the years passed the brand grew steadily, but Oxford had to compete and in the late nineties it was the only company left in the UK that could manufacture diecast products. The time had come for Oxford to switch production overseas as well which it did in January 2001. | |
