Good Morning Campers! A set to bring back memories of the Butlins holiday camps that were so loved in the fifties and sixties in the UK. The coach shows Skegness as its destination the home of Billy Butlins first holiday camp. The collection consists of the Butlins Coach, Catering Van and 'soft drinks' Lorry. Billy Butlin arrived in Skegness in 1921 a poor but energetic travelling showman. By 1929 he had acquired some land on the south side of the pier and opened a large amusement park, and by 1935 he had built his first Butlins Holiday Camp set between Skegness and Ingoldmells. The camp was a runaway success and formed a new holiday for all the family. Many more camps followed, all base on the Butlins theme. |
