A Journey through UK diecast manufacturing history

Fascinating read - couldn't put it down. Grammar and punctuation was non-existent, but Taff's writing style is very engaging. I had not previously realised just how important Oxford Diecast was to the UK diecast manufacturing industry. Before production was finally moved to China, the factory in Wales was still using machines inherited from Corgi as well as machines acquired from Lesney/Matchbox and even machines acquired from Lledo. Literally the whole history of diecast vehicle production in the UK was brought together in one place, so the pedigree of Oxford Diecast models is second to none. The book also has lots of nuggets and anecdotes about every aspect of production, and also acts as a pictorial reference guide to every model produced up to the date it was originally published. A thoroughly good read and valuable reference source for any UK diecast collector. Ian

    A Journey Through Time

A fascinating account of factory life in the 1960s and beyond. Having been at university in Swansea in the late 1960s I can relate to the background that Taff writes about. He writes at pace, conveying the immediacy of the decisions that had to be made at different stages in the evolution of the die cast industry in this country. The story behind the internationalisation of production makes salutary reading. I particularly enjoyed following the reasons why today we may find aberrations in particular model lines. The petty jealousies, in-fighting and board room machinations are laid bare but were not confined to the die cast industry (I have a particular interest in the UK motorcycle industry and these two could almost be mirror images of one and other). I read the book in one sitting and then went back, took my time, and read it again.
