Jaguar by Oxford Diecast

William Lyons began making Swallow sidecars in 1922. He turned to making more attractive bodywork for mass-produced cars, then to making SS Cars; speedy, stylish and offering great value for money. After the war he continued this winning formula to make Jaguar cars. These included the postwar sports cars, the XK120, XK140, XK150 and the E-type, the sports-racers (C-type, D-type, lightweight E-type etc) the big saloons (Mark IV to Mark X), and the smaller saloon cars (including the immortal Mark II). William Lyons had great ambitions for Jaguar, taking over Daimler and Guy, but subsequent changes of ownership saw the Jaguar brand weakened, though it survived. The XJ6 saloon appeared in 1969, replacing all the previous saloon cars (Mark X-derived 420G and S-type derived 420). First released with the XJ six-cylinder engine, in 1972 the 5.3 litre V12 engine was offered, as the XJ12. The deep grille was reduced in height for the XJ6 Series II, then in 1975 the two-door XJ Coupe was launched, but it only lasted two years. In 1976 the Series III replaced the Series II, and the Coupe was dropped. The XJ-S Sports coupe replaced the E-type Series III in 1975. It was built on a shortened XJ6 floorpan with the 5.3 litre V12 engine. The XJ40 saloon was announced in October 1986 to replace the XJ6 Series III with the new AJ40 six-cylinder engine or the V12. The XK8 two-plus-two sports coupe and convertible were launched in 1996 with the four-litre AJV8 engine, closely related to the Aston Martin DB7, also owned by Ford at the time, but costing less than half as much. The S-Type was launched in 1998, sharing a platform with a Lincoln, also Ford-owned. 2008 saw another new owner for Jaguar, Tata of India, who invested in a new range of world-beating cars. In 2008 the S-type was rebodied as the XF, with more muscular, futuristic styling, which was carried forward through the large new XJ saloon, facelifted XF, the new smaller XE saloon, the F-type sports car and the F-Pace SUV.

Oxford Diecast manufactures scale diecast models from many of the large leading vehicles companies. But first here's a bit about the Jag. The Jaguar E-Type Series 1 was introduced in March 1961, using the triple SU carburetted 3.8 litre 6-cylinder Jaguar XK6 engine from the XK150S. In the first 500 cars built, the floors were flat and hood latches were on the outside. These cars are rare and more valuable than later models. The floor of all E-Types was then dished to provide more leg room and the twin hood latches moved to inside the car. The 3.8 litre engine was increased to 4.2 litres in late 1964; all E-Types featured independent coil spring rear suspension with torsion bar front ends, and four wheel disc brakes, power-assisted from 1964 onward. Jaguar was one of the first auto manufacturers to equip cars with disc brakes as standard equipment.
