Herbert Austin, worked at Wolseley Motors and had designed the first British car. This was a time of great change; the steam vehicles of the past were being passed over. There was a rush by many companies to produce new petrol engine vehicles, but it was a different technology. Bike manufacturers seeing the opportunities switched production, but this was to bigger step and many failed.
