The name Dennis is synonymous with fire appliances and yet the two brothers Raymond and John started out in 1895 in a Devonshire village on a path which would lead them to producing cars, lawn mowers, buses and lorries as well as fire appliances. They started producing the F series of fire engines in 1946, with the F12 being the most popular. In those days, its construction comprised a wooden frame with an aluminium skin. It appeared in both rear and side pump versions and was used widely throughout the UK. This is a 1:120 scale (TT) model.

1:120 scale Dennis F12

Amazing intricate detail for such a small scale model. Lovely display case. I really like the idea of this scale for larger vehicles. From a previous post you will know I like following historical themes on specific types of vehicles. I 1:120 scale I would love to see a range of fire engines from an early open cab type to the modern ones. The same for buses, open top, routemaster and subsequent types.

I have bought some 1:120 vehicles recently to compliment my new Hornby layout. It is great to see that Oxford die cast have decided to expand their range in future. Hopefully this will continue as quality vehicles for this scale are scarce. The vehicles have good detail and help bring a layout to life. I would like to see a 1960’s double decker bus added soon and maybe a couple of more standard cars of the period. These vehicles are well worth collecting with future TT 120 models coming as part of the hornby 5 year plan.
