Over 75,000 FX4's were manufactured between 1958 and 1997. It was manufactured over the years by Austin,Carbodies and finally LTI. it was 15 foot in length and teh majority were of course black. The original design was Eric Bailey who worked at Austin.

The Austin FX4 became a very familiar sight on the streets of London.

    Austin FX4 London Black Cab Taxi

    I was most pleased with my purchase. An excellent product of which no model layout depicting the London of the mid-to-late twentieth century can do without. Jolly good.

    Black cabs

    I wanted a taxi rank for my layout (Vinbury Manor) and the type of taxi I chose looks perfect at the side of the station building. Shame I can’t send pictures with this review though.

    Have a red one but wanted the more traditional black one as well. looks great outside the train station
