Introduced in 1900, the only 6 wheel Brakes built by the GWR. These are coded AA1 and were braked on all wheels. Suited for 22 tons - or later 24 tons. They were ideal for the heavy coal trains operated over parts of the network in that period.

Later the lower planking on the bodies was covered by metal sheathing - our model will reproduce both Planked and Plated variants. Many vehicles survived through to BR days and were not withdrawn until the 1950's.

We have teamed up with Dan at DH Loco Worx & Kyle at TRS Trains to bring this model to life, with a light dusting this brings the model closer to true to life as operations and weather takes its toll.

    Toad is looking rather dirty*

    A very good looking brake van. Added to the fact that it is more reasonably priced compared to others from different companies it a real bargain. Just the thing Western region modellers need. * read Wind in the Willows for an explanation.

    Great value weathering on a great value van

    I had a non weathered version of this 6 wheel Toad brake van and when I saw a weathered version at such a reasonable price I had to bag one and I wasn’t disappointed, nice and grubby, looking every inch like the vans from the late 50s did around the West Midlands. More of these weathered rolling stock, please…
