The JCB7 6-cylinder metal tracked excavator. The 7 was JCB’s first 360◦ vehicle,  originally developed and produced in 1965. It was powered by a 6-cylinder Ford 590E engine and offered a power output of 96hp at 2250 rpm. The hydraulic excavator was based on an American design and was a 12 tonne class machine, capable of a maximum dig depth of 16’ 9”.  The cab interior featured quite basic machinery but that was typical of mid 1960s design.

In model form, the yellow and red excavator looks equally simple, faithfully replicating the original, as used by JCB themselves. The interior of the cab is as per the body colour but with black detailing, The pistons and the exhaust pipe are finished in silver and to round off the model, the JCB 7 logo is printed in black on the rear and also on the bucket arms.

Completing another phase of JCB history, it is interesting to know there are some of these 1960s machines still in use around the world.

    Almost a perfect seven

    USING? this item. Taking it out of the box and looking at it is hardly using it but that's as far as I've got. It'll end up in my display cabinet but it certainly won't be doing duty in a sandpit or whatever, though I'd have loved to have had a model like this when I was a kid. From a collector's point of view I don't have a real JCB to hand but looking at pics on the web it seems pretty accurate; to nitpick I'm not sure the cab should have a red roof; versions with the flat cab front seem to have this in yellow but there looks to be plenty of variations so it may be right for a particular model. The tracks (and I was surprised to find they WERE painted red though I doubt they stayed that way for long... No doubt the railway modellers will have fun weathering them!) are perhaps a bit loose and don't hang well and the small wheels are somewhat simplified but hey, this is an inexpensive model and to have made lots of separate wheels would have greatly increased the price. All in all a great model for the price.

    Well what can I say that I haven't already said about other models I've bought.another nice piece and a great addition to the other JCB models, brilliant moving parts like the others I got and another nice piece in showing the history of JCB and the vehicles it created, just waiting for the others to be released now and would like to see some other models of atlas excavator's or old Muir hill tractors and stuff would be nice, well done Oxford for being creative and doing something different, scored 10 out of 10, thanks Phil
