The first release of the Mercury Eight 1949 from our Brand New range of 1:87 scale Classic American Cars.

We have selected the 2-door coupe in two tone green with black chassis, registered 5-4253 19 DC 49. The split windscreen and rear window surrounds are printed in silver, as are the door handles, bumper, grille, coachlines and the wheel inserts. Note the finishing touches of whitewall tyres and the Mercury badges on the front of the bonnet and on the boot. The Mercury name is also printed above the rear wheel arch within the silver coachlines along the body.

Really Nice Example of a '49 Coupe

I did not purchase the model directly via Oxford, but rather a dealer. I have to say the two-tone paint is absolutely beautiful, as is the shape of the model. For such a relatively small scale done in metal (vs. the usual plastic) the car really sets off the vibe of a real 1949 Mercury. I even modified mine a tad bit by lowering it for a subtle 'hot rod' look. I wish I had the skill set to chop the roof, although with the special two-tone paint that I do not think I would chop up this model, but rather buy a different monotone color, or the custom flame '49 to chop. I also purchased the custom 3 car '49 Mercury set, but will not open that box, so, oh darn, will have to purchase a couple more to customize!

Excellent Detailing

The model is extremely detailed for the size. It looks like it jumped right out of a period film noir movie. The paint is very nice and the two-tone green gives it an extra bit of detailing that ties it all in as a convincing period-correct model.
