The MG Midget MkIII was produced from 1966 to 1974 and was the third generation of the Midget. It was based on the MkII model, but with a number of improvements, including:

  • A larger 1275cc engine, producing 65bhp
  • A new folding hood design
  • A larger fuel tank
  • Rounder wheel arches
  • A more substantial windscreen frame
  • Improved suspension

It was also the first Midget to be sold in the United States in large numbers. This was due to the fact that it met all of the latest US safety regulations.

A popular car with both enthusiasts and critics alike, it was praised for its fun handling, lively performance, and affordable price tag.

In total, over 99,000 MkIII Midgets were produced. This makes it the most popular generation of the Midget. it was a classic British sports car that is still enjoyed by enthusiasts today.

In 1974 the MkIII was discontinued, and the MkIV Midget is introduced.

The first 1:76 scale Oxford release comes in Blaze Orange and is on a plinth, with a clear case lid and Oxford Automobile wrap.

    MG Midget MKIII in orange

    On a scale of 1 to 10, I would give this item a 10. I bought 2 of them so I could give a friend one for this coming Christmas. I've made them a huge fan of Oxford cars and trucks. Thanks Oxford!

    MG Midget Mark lll

    Very quick delivery to the US. Over the years I have owned a few actual Midgets and Sprites, mostly II’s, but not a III. It is great to see a 1/76 version of the III. Maybe you can make a Mark II of the Midget or the Sprite in the future. I have a few of your other 1:76 cars that are models of what I have also owned (Austin A40, Mini, TR6, TR7, & MGBGT). Keep up the good work.

    Another one down!

    I have been collecting models of the cars that I and my late father have owned to pass on to my grandsons (eventually!). I have particular fondness for the MG Midget as it was my first sports car and was delighted when Oxford Diecast produced it in blaze orange, the colour of mine! For a 1:76 scale the detail is remarkably good. It’s on display in my study alongside several Land Rovers and an Armstrong Siddeley, Well done Oxford die cast…keep em coming!

    A really lovely model.

    I had the pleasure of driving a friend’s MG Midget. I was the official photographer at his wedding and he asked me to bring it from the church to the reception. This model brings back those memories.
