Update Regarding Oxford Diecast 87CM59001 Cadillac Miller-Meteor Ambulance

Update Regarding Oxford Diecast 87CM59001 Cadillac Miller-Meteor Ambulance

Update Regarding Oxford Diecast 87CM59001 Cadillac Miller-Meteor Ambulance

We would like to update collectors regarding our recently released 1:87 Cadillac Miller-Meteor Ambulance (87CM59001).

Following feedback from collectors and our US distributor, we have identified that the model was incorrectly scaled during development. Whilst the model was designed and released as a 1:87 (HO) model, it is approximately 13% smaller than intended, making it closer to 1:100 scale.

This issue was unfortunately not identified during our normal development and approval processes. The scaling error was missed at several stages before production. We are naturally disappointed that this happened and sincerely apologise to our customers.

As soon as the issue was confirmed, we removed the model from sale whilst we reviewed the best way forward.

Since then, we have been speaking with collectors, dealers and our North American distributor. Interestingly, feedback has been mixed. Whilst many collectors understandably expected a true 1:87 model, a number of customers have told us they still like the model and intend to keep it.

Based on this feedback, we have decided on the following immediate actions:

  • Existing stock will be repackaged to remove 1:87 Scale

  • Future production of the second livery will also carry revised packaging to avoid any confusion.

  • We will continue to monitor customer feedback before making a final decision on whether to produce a completely retooled 1:87 version or develop an alternative full-size Cadillac model.

For customers who have already purchased 87CM59001 and are unhappy with the scale difference, we completely understand. If you purchased directly from Oxford Diecast, please contact our customer service team and we will be happy to arrange a return and refund in accordance with our normal returns process. If you purchased through one of our retail partners, please contact the retailer in the first instance. We have advised all our direct retailers and wholesalers of the issue.

We appreciate the honest feedback we have received from collectors around the world. Whilst this is not the outcome we wanted, your comments have helped us determine the most sensible path forward.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding.

Oxford scale models are spectacular products! I was very excited about the release of the (1/86) 1959 Miller Meteor Ambulances. Despite the off scale , they are beautiful. I purchased 8 …. 6 I needed for a historical architectural model and two were for my own layout /collection. Despite being a bit too small they work well on the architectural model however I had to Keep scale figures away from the vehicles. I know it is probably expensive , but I hope you do find time to re-issue a correct 1/87 version of this model someday … and I also look forward to the 1/87 funeral coach / hearse version. Again thank OXFORD for creating these beautiful models!

Thank you for being so honest. I have the model and it is beautiful. But I would love to have it again in real 1:87 scale, too. And yes, please consider making Ecto – 1, if you retool it. BTW… the new golden Buick Electra 225 looks beautiful.

Thank you so much for openly communicating the mistake with the cadillac ambulance. Despite this mishap, I consider it one of your best models in 87thscale. So, yes, I would love to buy it in the correct scale. And, please, be sure to keep up this wonderful series of classic American verhicles.

I just remembered:

A few years ago, the Citroën H-Y van was released in 1:76 scale with many different liveries, each one more beautiful than the last.

It then turned out that its scale wasn’t accurate; it was the same size and scale as those manufactured by other European brands in 1:87.

Result:
I have all the variations in my city, and they look splendid.
Sometimes a mistake turns into a great surprise!

Go ahead, always, with lots of enthusiasm!

And…

Thank you for making me happy

I purchased two of the Miller Meteor Ambulances and was advised of the mistake. I chose to keep them. My plan is to convert one to an Ecto -1 model. A little smaller is better than a bit bigger. If you have them retooled to proper 1:87 scale, I will purchase 2 more. Maybe you could have one made as Ecto – 1. I think that would fly off the shelf. Maybe you could do a Delorean too and have it done up as the Time Machine from Back to the Future. You make the best 1:87 models and they are reasonably priced.

I’ll keep my two ambulance models;
I still think they’re beautiful.

And if you decide to make a version in the correct scale, I’m sure I’d want those too.

Anyone can make a mistake, but when the mistake is beautiful, there’s nothing to forgive.

Go ahead, always, with lots of enthusiasm!

Thank you for making me happy!

Wow, fullest respect and highest appreciation for this very open and comprehensive comment. And yes, still very much interested in 1/87 scale models / ambulances, be it the same or some alternative make. Thank you!
